Why Does It Matter?

There is quite a lot of discussion among theologians and scientists about creation. Many a heated debate has taken place over the years concerning who created what and when it was created. I don't want to open up all those arguments here, but I do think it is important for us to address why those arguments are so heated. Does it really matter how the earth (little lone the universe) came into being? I believe that this question is of huge importance. If God did not create the world then He has no right to rule it or humanity.

Isaiah 2:7-9 (English Standard Version)

7Their land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures;
their land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.

9So man is humbled,
and each one is brought low—
do not forgive them!

Very simply, the creator does not worship that which it created. The potter does not bow before the pot and the parent is not ruled by the child. Establishing that God is the transcendent creator of the universe also establishes Him as its ruler and the rightful object of our worship. If we accept that the universe created its self (and us) then we should serve and worship the universe. A right relationship with God flows from recognizing Him as the creator.
